Simple steps for
registering your domain name under the .PS
|
1
|
Choose a Name
|
|
A domain name must be
unique. To check whether a given name is still
available use the WHOIS
lookup system, which you will find at the top of
every page of our website. Domain names must meet with
a number of technical
requirements, which you can find in the .PS
registration policy. For tips on how to choose a good
name read our
newsletter. |
|
2
|
Choose a CR |
|
Having
chosen a domain name you must then contact a Certified
Registrar. You will find a list of these
CRs on our
website. |
|
3
|
Read the Registration Policy |
|
When
registering a .ps domain name you lend your explicit
agreement to the general terms and conditions set in
the .PS Registration Policy
for end users.
The CR you have chosen will give these conditions to
you at the time of registration, either for formal
signature, or for explicit acceptance during (online)
registration. If your
CR did not
present you with these conditions, you can always view
them
here. |
|
4
|
Provide the CR
with the necessary details |
|
You will
need to provide the
CR with
the following details: Domain Registrant details +
contact person: name + phone no. + address + valid
e-mail address. A valid e-mail address is of the
utmost importance, because it is our only direct means
of communication with you. |
|
5
|
Complete the form
|
|
The
CR will
fill in an electronic
form (or you can fill it in yourself if you
register online). Be sure to check that the details
are correct. It is important that the details you give
are actually your own, and not those of the
CR or an
intermediary (e.g. web designer).
 |
|
6
|
Register the domain name |
|
Registration is completely automatic. Your
CR will
forward the form to us. The domain name will be
automatically registered for a period of one year.
Once the domain name has been registered, the
corresponding fee will be automatically debited from
the CR's
credit line with PNINA. It
is not possible to correct a misspelled domain name;
the CR
will have no other option but to register the correct
name and pay a second fee. |
|
7 |
Publication on the website |
|
The
status of the domain name is available on
PNINA secured website and
can be accessed by your
CR. This
serves as official notification that your domain name
has been registered. Registration is usually completed
within 24 hours with a maximum period of 48 hours. |
|

Updating the name server |
|
Only
when the DNS name server has been updated your domain
name will become active. Give some time to DNS
propagation throughout the DNS systems around the
world for your website under the new domain name to
be fully reachable. |
|
9 |
WHOIS |
|
|
Your
domain name will be stored in the
WHOIS database. Your
details will be available to everyone, on the basis
that everyone is entitled to know exactly who lies
behind a given domain name or its associated website.
Obviously, the WHOIS
database is subject to restrictions, as a means of
preventing misuse.

Update Domain Name
The Domain Owner of the domain name
should approach his CR with the request that his details
be modified. Domain Owner field can’t be modified. You
cannot apply directly to PNINA; only your CR has the
authority to modify details. If you do not know who your
CR is, you can use our (WHOIS) lookup system to find out.
If the WHOIS database reports PNINA as your CR, this means
that the CR who manages your domain name is no longer a CR
with PNINA; his contract with PNINA has reached an end. In
that case you will have to choose another CR first.
Without a CR you cannot modify the details of your domain
name.
These updates are therefore
free of charge.
Delete Domain Name
The Domain
Owner for the domain name should approach his CR with the
request that the domain name be deleted. You cannot apply
directly to PNINA. CRs have the option of deleting your
domain name immediately, or doing so at a later date.
If you do not intend to renew your domain name
registration, it is important that you inform your CR of
this before the expiration date of your domain. Your CR
can tell you exactly when your domain name expires. This
information is also available through PNINA Whois lookup
system. If the renewal date has passed, your CR will be
automatically invoiced for a new period. It is possible
that your CR will then ask you to pay for another year.
On-Hold/Freeze
Un-paid for domain names are not been freed immediately by
the date they expire, instead they are put in an
on-hold/freeze status for 30 days. During that
period the domain name is not active, no updates can be
executed; only a renewal initiated before the delete day
can be finalized.
Transfer Domain Name
|
A domain name is linked to
its Domain Owner and not to the CR who manages it.
This means that you are free to change to another CR
at any time.
Cost
PNINA will charge the transfer to the new CR. A
transfer is viewed as a new registration: the cost is
therefore the same, and the renewal date changes to
the date of transfer.
PNINA cannot intervene in
disputes between you and the CR in respect of
invoicing, unpaid invoices, premature deletion, etc.
Make sure you read the CR's terms and conditions
beforehand.
Transferring a domain name: step by step |
|
1- Choose a CR |
You can approach any new CR from our list of Certified
Registrars. You will need to provide this CR with all
the necessary details, as you would for a new
registration. |
|
2- Name server set-up
|
The new CR will use your details to set up a name
server. To avoid problems it is best to take this step
before proceeding with step 3. |
|
3- Submission of transfer request |
The CR will submit an electronic transfer request to
PNINA. Be sure to check that these details are
correct. It is important that the details are your
own, and not those of the CR or an intermediary. |
|
4- Issue of e-mails
|
Once the transfer request reaches PNINA the automatic
registration system issues 2 e-mails: 1- one to the
new CR confirming receipt of the transfer request and
2- one to the Domain Owner requesting confirmation of
the transfer |
|
5- Reply to the e-mail
|
It
is intended that you, the Domain Owner, reply to this
e-mail (not the CR). Check again that the details in
the transfer request are correct and that the CR
requesting the move is the CR of your choice.
State clearly in the e-mail whether or not you give
your consent by adding YES, NO, AGREED, etc.
Possibilities:
|
e-mail |
Action |
|
· e-mail returns without reply (e.g. inoperative
e-mail address)
· e-mail returns with unclear reply
· no reply after 7 days |
PNINA informs CR and requests fax within 7 days
from the Domain Owner. If fax is OK, transfer
processed (see step 6) |
|
e-mail returns with "NO" |
PNINA cancels transfer and informs CR |
|
e-mail returns with "YES" |
PNINA processes transfer (see step 6) |
|
|
6- Processing the transfer: (acceptance or rejection) |
If the Domain Owner agrees to the transfer (by fax or
by e-mail), PNINA checks that the details correspond
with those already held in our database. This prevents
a domain name from being transferred to another Domain
Owner. Minor changes are acceptable, such as updating
an e-mail address, phone/fax number.
If the details are okay, the transfer goes ahead.
If the details are not okay, the transfer is refused
and the CR is notified. This is a manual process:
PNINA clicks 'yes' or 'no' and the automated system
registers the new details. The new CR is notified. At
that point the old CR is informed that it no longer
manages the domain name in question. |
|
7- Name server update |
The Domain Owner will be able to view the change once
the name server is updated. |

Renew Domain Name
The procedure for renewals varies from CR
to CR. Domain names are renewed automatically and the CR
is charged the fee. It is therefore extremely important
that you give your CR advance notice of whether or not you
intend to renew your domain name. If you do not wish to
renew your domain name, the CR will need to delete it
before it expires.
Renewals are valid for a one or multiple year periods.
If the WHOIS database reports PNINA as your CR, this means
that the CR who manages your domain name is no longer an
agent with PNINA; his contract with PNINA has reached an
end.
It is not possible to renew a domain name if PNINA is
listed as its CR. It can only be renewed when you choose
another CR to which the renewal fee can be invoiced. If
you do not renew your domain name via a CR, it will be
placed in the on-hold/freeze status for one month and
deleted as soon as this month elapsed.
Trade Domain Name
No Owner transfer or Domain trade is allowed under the .ps
Policies and Procedures. The old domain owner should apply
through his CR for a delete domain request and the new
Registrant can apply for the same domain name as soon it
is available to the public. PNINA will allocate the new
name based on the First Come First Serve concept and no
guarantee whatsoever is provided to any CR or domain owner
for a certain domain name.
